Project Overview
A commissioned project from Marcado Trail Quest and Maharlika Trail Series. This race will take place on Mt. Manabu and its surrounding areas. I was tasked with making a unique and memorable identity for the race branding.
This design went through a lot of concepts. I wanted to highlight something from the Sta. Cruz area itself. At first, I had coffee beans as the star, but eventually changed it to what became the final design.
Thankfully I was able to bring the Race Director’s vision to life. We had a lot of back and forth with the designs but we ended up with something we both liked in the end.
With the branding done, I was tasked with designing the race shirts as well as other swag and online postings.
Details
To highlight the importance of the mountain, we focused on its most famous inhabitant, the Civet Cat. This is the animal that picks the best coffee beans and whose droppings are used to make one of the world’s most expensive coffee.
We put that cute creature right in the logo and it became the race’s figurehead. The race shirts, finisher medals, trophies and caps are now branded with it. The combination of colors are straight from the Race Director. Intense but still cool and breezy.
And to tie it together, the slopes of Mt. Manabu and the other peaks are silhouetted and dotted with the elevation map patterns.
