Akyat: Mt. Apayang via Mt. Talamitam Traverse

Sunday,
September 20, 2015

Continuing the streak of climbing newly-opened mountains, after hearing from our Talamitam guide that Mt. Apayang was already open for hikers, my friends and I immediately set a date to climb it. After praying for the whole week for it not to rain, we were able to successfully conquer Talamitam’s neighbor. But this was no easy feat, because this mountain gave me the most stressful descent so far!

After hearing of a newly-opened mountain in the nearby province of Rizal, my officemates and I quickly set a date to hike it. This mountain is known as Mt. Sipit Ulang, and unknowingly, it has become my most technical climb to date. Let’s find out why.

I don’t think I’ve ever missed an opportunity to announce that Mt. Batulao is my favorite climb. And to prove that, I’ve decided to visit it again. This time, I kept track of the itinerary and cost which I neglected to do on my first climb. So let’s dig in!

Akyat: Hike Essentials

HikeEssentials-01

I’ve already posted about the Bike Essentials that everyone should check out when they’re about to start biking. Now that I’ve had a few mountains under my belt, I’ve decided to make a little infographic about hiking! Because I’ve only ever done dayhikes, the items listed are those I’ve had some experience with. For overnight hikes, I might make separate post for that once I’ve actually done one. So for now, here’s the EVERY-DAY-HIKE carry list!

Akyat: Mt. Pamitinan and Mt. Binacayan

Thursday

According to Philippine folklore, mythical strongman Bernardo Carpio was trapped in between two mountains, forever forced to keep them from colliding with each other. Those two mountains, Mt. Pamitinan and Mt. Binacayan, are the subject of my first ever twin hike. Let’s go!

Akyat: Mt. Talamitam

Sunday
June 14, 2015

As if I didn’t get enough of my Mt. Manabu climb the day before, I spontaneously planned another climb with a friend. This time, it would be on Mt. Talamitam, a mountain that I’ve heard is also another easy climb. Packaged with the climb is a quick swim at the Layong Bilog river. So without further ado, here is the second part of my Back-to-Back Bundok weekend!

Akyat: Mt. Manabu

Saturday
June 13, 2015

This climb was already scheduled way back in May. My officemate and fellow hiker, Rosalie, decided to invite other officemates of ours to an easy climb. This also served as a farewell get-together for one of us who was leaving the company. Sadly, she wasn’t able to make it to the climb, but we pushed through anyway. So here’s my account of Mt. Manabu a.k.a Free Coffee Mountain!
