T’was the night before Deadman’s and not a sound could be heard, because I was sound asleep with Khat in Rock Resort. Read on and you shall see, a long rundown of the experience for me.

Looking for a quick dayhike on a Sunday, Khat saw an event for a mountain I’ve never heard of. Mt. Taronton in Infanta, Quezon, supposedly sits 1234masl and has recently opened. Actually, the event we were joining was the opening climb. Since we were curious about the place, we confirmed our booking and prepared ourselves for an exciting hike.

I recently signed up for a special trail event in the nearby area. If the name of the race doesn’t scare you, then you’re a more courageous person than me. Hearing of its reputation from my more experienced friends, I told myself to take this challenge and see if I can complete it. Sparing no excuses, I attended the recon for the Dead Man’s 300 V3.0.

I knew I was gonna have a hard time when less than 3 kilometers into the race, I was already asking the Lord for forgiveness. Usually I only start talking to God during trail runs when I’m nearing the halfway point. The race director, DBB Delos Angeles wasn’t kidding at all when he called the race an uphill challenge.

Adversity introduces man to himself
This was running through my mind as I hopped over another river crossing, my socks drenched in sweat and water, and my head pounding from the searing heat. My feet felt like they weighed tons and my lips were dry and cracked, yet I still had about 13 kilometers to go. I was seriously doubting my ability to finish, but with a grandslam on the line, I powered on.
Warning: This is going to be a very long post. I have much feelings about this race.
