Because bebelabs is finishing her Asia Trail Master Grandmaster quest in Malaysia with the Penang Eco 100, I had a free weekend where I didn’t have anything planned. So I used it to finally hike a mountain I haven’t been to before, Mt. 387. This is my hike account.

Here’s my account of the 2019 Cordillera Mountain Ultra, a race I didn’t see myself running, and the events that led up to me finishing it. You can also read last year’s report for more on this race’s history.

I was a few meters past the 8-kilometer marker at the top of Mt. Kinabalu. I still had 700 meters to go before reaching Low’s Peak, the highest point of the mountain. Shivering, I flexed my numb fingers. I could see them move, but it had been a while since I had any feeling in them. Next, I pressed my hands beside my head to see if my ears haven’t fallen off from the cold yet. Is this the symptom of hypothermia? I thought to myself. Is this where I die?

Since I have no more races for the rest of the year, I decided to go back to my roots; hiking. It’s been a while since I hiked a new mountain. The last one was Mt. Halcon (Sialdang) back in holy week. So for this weekend, while Khat was training in Kibungan, I searched for an organized hike in the FB group CLIMBER. I finally decided on the semi-major hike in Tarlac, Mt. Damas.

I’ve been putting off writing this post because I’ll probably ramble on too much if given the chance. But this was just too good of an event to not put into writing. Plus I have already compiled all my pictures for the event, it would be such a waste for me to not post them here.
So without further ado, here is my account of the race, with lots of words and even more pictures.

It was a holiday this past Monday due to the local elections. Being an unregistered voter, that meant a free day for me. Fortunately, some friends of mine were planning to climb Mt. Maculot. It’s been 3 years since I last went there so I think it’s time for a revisit.
