Akyat: Mt. 387 + Aloha Falls Traverse

Sunday
June 23, 2019

Because bebelabs is finishing her Asia Trail Master Grandmaster quest in Malaysia with the Penang Eco 100, I had a free weekend where I didn’t have anything planned. So I used it to finally hike a mountain I haven’t been to before, Mt. 387. This is my hike account.

Pagsusuri: My Trail Running Gear for 2019

What is up everyone, it’s been a while since my last post here. I’ve been more active creating content (memes) on my facebook page, so feel free to check me out there. Anyways, I finally had the time to create a longer post and it will be about the gear I use for trail running! It’s late March and the trail season has already begun so I think a good rundown of my equipment can help those looking for cheap but effective running essentials. As you all know, I am kuripot af so I’m always looking for the best bang-for-buck items. Let’s go!

Akyat: Mt. Kinabalu

Friday to Saturday
November 30 to December 1, 2018

I was a few meters past the 8-kilometer marker at the top of Mt. Kinabalu. I still had 700 meters to go before reaching Low’s Peak, the highest point of the mountain. Shivering, I flexed my numb fingers. I could see them move, but it had been a while since I had any feeling in them. Next, I pressed my hands beside my head to see if my ears haven’t fallen off from the cold yet. Is this the symptom of hypothermia? I thought to myself. Is this where I die?

Akyat: Mt. Damas and Ubod Falls dayhike

Sunday
November 18, 2018

Since I have no more races for the rest of the year, I decided to go back to my roots; hiking. It’s been a while since I hiked a new mountain. The last one was Mt. Halcon (Sialdang) back in holy week. So for this weekend, while Khat was training in Kibungan, I searched for an organized hike in the FB group CLIMBER. I finally decided on the semi-major hike in Tarlac, Mt. Damas.

Akyat: Mt. Maculot Revisited

Monday
May 14, 2018

It was a holiday this past Monday due to the local elections. Being an unregistered voter, that meant a free day for me. Fortunately, some friends of mine were planning to climb Mt. Maculot. It’s been 3 years since I last went there so I think it’s time for a revisit.

Takbo: 1st P2P 50/20km Challenge

Sunday
November 5, 2017

Hearing stories of the Mt. Pinatubo Circuit from friends, I’ve been interested in the place since way back. It just never became a priority and with most hikes taking place at the same time as other hikes, Pinatubo was a distant dream. So when the Pinatubo-master himself, Sir Jherry Guiao announced a new trail run along that route, I didn’t have second thoughts. Here’s my long and winding recap of the 1st edition of the Porac-Pinatubo 50km challenge.

Akyat: Taal Crater via Tabaro Trail

Saturday
September 2, 2017

Finally! I have reached the crater lake in the famous Taal volcano. I’ve always passed by the volcano when going through Tagaytay, but I’ve never really put effort into going to it. Then on a free weekend, I saw my friend Enciong post about a hike to Taal, via a different route than the traditional “tourist trail.” I messaged him immediately to secure a spot. At first we were waitlisted, but then more slots opened up for Khat and me. Yay!

Akyat: Mt. Napulauan

Saturday to Sunday
May 20-21, 2017

Mt. Napulauan is a familiar mountain because my friends have hiked it before. Aside from that and it being very far from Manila, I didn’t know much about it. So when Khat told me that we’ll be hiking it, I had no idea what was in store. Continue reading “Akyat: Mt. Napulauan”
